Dragonfly Cupcakes #3

My wife has always wanted to learn the art of cake decorating and cupcake making so for Christmas I bought her a book that has a bunch of really cool cupcake recipes and instructions on how to make some very creative cupcakes. She also picked up another book in for cake decorating and made a pretty awesome lamb cake for Easter. She made these dragonfly cupcakes for Memorial Day weekend for the whole family. I think these are the best yet that she has done..working with the fondant  is a lot like working with clay when doing a fact watching her do the decorating is more like watching an artist than a baker.

Grapefruit #3

Here is some more grapefruit for you just in time for breakfast. It is thundering pretty good outside which means a rain day for the lawn crew...too bad I got up early and was already having my morning coffee when that call came in or I would be back in bed already. I guess that just gives me an excuse to nap later on today before I start to shoot a good friend of the

Grapefruit #2

Just got home from Anogla, Indiana, where unfortunately I did not get many photographs taken...but some much needed reading and rest and great Mexican food. Here is another shot that I took of Grapefruit from a few days ago.

I just shot this today and finished it up so I thought I'd post it up here since I probably will not be posting anything tomorrow due to Holiday festivities.

The Hard Lessons

This is a really old photo..around 2006 I think..with my old fuji finepix camera. The Hard Lessons played at the  Collingwood Art Center for a Mardi Gras party. I think this might have be the moment that I really wanted to take photography seriously.

The Psalters

Yesterday I posted an image from a mewithoutYou show in Akron, Ohio from a few years back, so I decided that I will post another from the same show until I get some new work. This is the lead singer of the Psalters...which if you have never seen quite an experience.

Michael Weiss from mewithoutYou

This was taken in Akron a few years back at a show billed as The Weiss Family Band on a tour with The Psalters. I figured I'd post this today in honor of the release of their new album "10 Stories"  and the fact that I do not have anything new to post today. Go buy the album and enjoy some good music with some good storytelling.

For Sale: Paths to Follow

Here is another one finished. "Paths to Follow" sealed onto sealed wood. Image take from Kitty Hawk, N.C. leading up the dunes onto the beach. Taken with my Kodak Brownie Hawkeye using 120mm film. 6"x7". $15.00

For Sale: Snow Pine photo sealed onto wood

I just finished this up this morning 6"x7" wood block...sealed with a photo taken with my Holga of a snow covered pine. $15.00.

Gazanias, or African Daisies, as they are also called, have taken up residents in our front flower bed, tucked in between he little shrubs, and appear to be quite happy after being rescued from the lot of the garden center where we found them. They appear to get along with the grass that tickles their leaves when the wind blows, they seem to tolerate the wet nose of the the canine beast that sniffs around their little body's....however I did hear a yelp when the canine beast planted his paw right on one of their tender little shoots...but they forgave him for his clumsiness and they even seem to enjoy the little garden gnome that yells   stories and gossip from across the walk. Yes I do believe they rather enjoy it here.

Wooden Hemp Tied Wall Hangings

This is what I have been working on. A low budget way to sell prints without having to buy frames and glasss...a more grassroots approach. I know this isn't the best's from my phone, but I wanted to post
it. I will be selling these at our etsy shop in a few days. Waterproof and UV ray proof. The wood is sealed and so is the print. Tied together by hemp. This is just the first one....I think a photo of surfboards on the beach of Honolulu should be on wood and tied with hemp instead of being in a matted frame anyway.

Here are 3 more images of tomatoes on the vine.

Tomatoes! One of my dogs favorite summer treats from the garden. It is not uncommon for him to come back into the house with a tomato seed or two stuck to the hair on his face. These aren't from our garden. Our garden is still a baby and my dog will be the first to show you if you were to come over for a visit since he spends most of his time when he's outside checking the tomato plants for any signs of little red delicious balls of joy. These were from Krogers. Sony 350a dslr

Button Mushrooms

I really want to work more on capturing all of the little details that make up these odd little fungal creatures, but this right here is just the start. Most of my food shots are in color but the mushrooms look so great in black and white because of all their different textures and oddities.  I will be shooting more varieties of these healthy little creatures in the future.

Muppet #3

I missed yesterday's post due to lack of time. I was busy trying to get my garden all set up before I had to go into work in case it rained..which it didn't. 15 pepper plants, 5 tomatoes, 2 eggplan, 2 zukes, 2 cukes, a handful of herbs and a bok choy plant. Everything is all planted now and in order. Now I can get back to editing and shooting. Looks like I'm going to have some vegetable photos coming up this summer.

wind blown weed

A dandelion that is loosing it's seeds due to the wind. Just like all things, spreading it's seed to populate the world. You may not like the dandelion, it sure plays havoc on the yard..but I think it is still beautiful non the less. Especially when it has gone to seed like this one. Dandelion I will shoot you till I hang up my camera...after all you make fantastic wine.

Muppet #3

This is another one of those crazy Jim Henson flowers. Dancing in the breeze...what it does best.

Sun Ray Yellow

Yellow flowers dancing in the sunshine at Wildwood Metro Park. Using the sun's glare of the camera lens for some nice affects. Sometimes it just feels right to sit in a bed of wildflowers and just observe.

Muppet #2

I call them muppets because it looks like something Jim Henson would have created..or maybe this is where he got some of his inspiration from. I'm not really sure since I don't know much about Jim Henson except that he was a creative genius that keeps me entertained whenever one of his creations is in front of my eyes. Ironically enough so did the flowers, they kept me entertained bouncing and dancing playfully in the spring breeze. This one is just getting ready to open up and start it's new life.

Granny Smith

This is Granny Smith, a little shy, but that's because she just got out of her you can see she is still wet from the vigorous cleaning process that is required to get all of the chemicals and waxes off of her. It's kind of odd the amount of chemicals we are willing to put on our food and bodies to remain aesthetically pleasing in comparison to popular belief.

Sliced Oranges #4

It's an army of oranges lined up in rows..actually though they were quite friendly. Some of the best models that I have ever had the chance to work with. No bad attitudes or cat fights with this group. They were even happy when I cut them into that's odd. After the shoot we even treated them to a nice resting our bellies. On a serious note though you should eat oranges. They are good for you. And if you didn't they would be out of a job. Because the only thing oranges are good at is being eaten and being thrown at someone...and throwing an orange at someone out of anger could wind you up in jail for a felony charge and me nor the oranges want to see you behind bars. So eat an orange.

Orange Slices #3

Some freshly sliced oranges from a food photo session a few weeks ago. These were getting prepared to be  part of a Greek fruit salad to go along with a fresh vegetable Greek pizza. The photographs came out pretty well I must say, but they don't fully represent the amazing flavors that were on the dinner table that night.

Shop Floyd Nixson's

My wife and I just opened up our Etsy shop today. It is small but will continue to grow in the next week or so.

it's a flower muppet

This was shot at Wildwood Park two Sundays ago...I got so many shots that day I"m still editing them all. I have a ton of food images left that I haven't even got to. Shooting more food today since it's raining out, unless the sun happens to pop it's head out. Then I'm off to the parks.

Sun Daze

Ha I should have posted this one tomorow on Sunday..Sun Daze..Sunday...oh never mind. This is from last Sunday at Wildwood. These flowers were everywhere in this little patch. I should really focus on getting the names of all these flowers so that I can sound like I actually know a little something about what I'm shooting. I love all the glares from shooting into the sun.

mca passed of my first modern day music heros...among ad rock and mike d, they helped give skinny white boys like myself hope in this world. The above shot is not from me..I don't know who shot that image...i just think it's great, so in honor, i'm posting it.

This is the image I just finished editing tonight while listening to copious amounts of beastie boys.

it's called me and my posse. in honor of mca.

Here I Come: Spring Flower Opening

I should really know what type of flower this is since there was probably a sign saying what it was. I was too busy rolling around on the ground trying to get different angles I guess to remember to read what the sign said.
These were fun to photograph though.  Sony 350a dslr.

Dawn at Oak Openings

I was lucky enough on Sunday to be at the right spot in the woods at the right time as the sun's rays found a gap in the tree tops to get their warming rays through to touch the frosty grass. This is number 1 in a 3 part series from this spot in the woods. I almost half expect to see magical woodland creatures appear, maybe they did I just wasn't paying close enough attention?
